Jan Harris Smith

Jan Harris Smith can’t remember a time when art was not the one constant companion in her life. Art was the mainstay in her life through her many moves as the daughter and wife of military personnel. I am always creating and each place she lived informed her art. 

Jan’s primary medium is fabricated, fused and cast sterling silver jewelry set with cabochons and faceted stones. She creates jewelry that tells a story and is informed by her love of nature and her desire to communicate this to others.  Much of her work is inspired by the nearby Wasatch mountains and the varied terrain of the Utah desert. 
Jan took her first silversmithing class in college in 1980 and has since completed several university level metal and fine art classes and numerous workshops taught by professionals in her field.  Her art is always continuing to evolve in new directions as she continues learning new skills. Jan began teaching silversmithing in 2016 and is currently the co-owner of Salt City Smithery, a full service silversmithing studio and school in Salt Lake City, UT.
